Our motto, “Let the Soil Speak”, says it all.
At Calcareous Vineyard, we strive to bring the best out of the limestone soil profiles and cool ocean breezes. Our winemaker, Jason Joyce, believes that the best winemaking begins in the vineyards. Our owners wholeheartedly agree and encourage the entire staff to focus on quality and style, one vine at a time, and one customer at a time. Calcareous harvests grapes from its own vineyards on Peachy Canyon Road and from long term leases with premium vineyards all situated on the westside slopes of Paso Robles. In addition, small blocks of premium fruit are purchased from family owned vineyards on the westside of Paso Robles. Our wines are rich in herbal and fruit aromas, perfectly balanced and elegantly refined.
We look forward to your arrival at the top.
Our vineyard is at 1,100 ft. elevation, with cool nightly breezes from the Templeton gap. Four acres of our ten-acre property are planted in head-trained Zinfandel. The remainder of the property is native oak woodland and a seasonal creek.Zinfandel (Primitivo clone 3) on 420A rootstock was our choice, based on the soil, climate and our love of Zinfandel wine. We have trained the vines into tall, multi-layered heads for good sun exposure and to make pruning and shoot-thinning easier on our backs. We personally perform all of the work in the vineyard, except harvesting. Our hands-on approach gives constant attention to the health of the vineyard, using science and technology.
Our vineyard is now SIP (Sustainability in Practice) Certified!
We are located in the El Pomar area, six miles east of Templeton.
