Father and daughter Lloyd Messer and Dana Brown established Calcareous Vineyard on one of the highest limestone plateaus in westside Paso Robles. With 442 acres atop solid calcareous rock reaching 1,800 feet above sea level, this was the foundation they were seeking for their own world-class, terroir-driven wines. It is a labor of love to cultivate fruit on this challenging land, but this rugged hilltop location, with its richly calcareous soils, regulating maritime influence, and steep hillside topography, is the reason Calcareous is able to craft such a stunning selection of small-lot, highly-acclaimed Bordeaux and Rhône varietals. Though Lloyd passed on in 2006, Dana advances their vision by releasing award-winning wines of uncommon character and elegance year after year, garnering recognition for the undeniable sense of place found in every bottle.
You are invited to take in the sweeping panoramic views from this secluded spot, and experience the breathtaking beauty of Calcareous for yourself. Wine tasting reservations are offered from 10:00am - 4:00pm, and a seasonal menu of artisan lunch items is available for pairing from 10:30am to 4:30pm daily. To enjoy a more intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Calcareous, a variety of elevated, private tasting experiences are also offered throughout the year. Please make reservations when planning your visit.
