Located in a low elevation valley between Creston and Paso Robles, the tasting room and winery are under the same roof of a Spanish hacienda-style barn. However, once inside, you see a contemporary tasting room with art, designer lighting, diamond plate aluminum bar, a well-stocked gourmet food pantry, and bold colors everywhere.
Cass Winery specializes in Rhone varieties such as Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache, Viognier, Roussanne, & Marsanne. All of these varieties are ENTAV clones. ENTAV is an agency of the French Government responsible for clonal certification. Over 90% of all new vineyards in France are planted with ENTAV certified clones. Select nurseries in California obtained license to propagate and sell these varieties in the late 1990’s, thus theses vines are producing the very first wines available in the US that are both Estate grown and ENTAV Certified. More information on ENTAV is available at www.entav.fr

Cass Winery Wins “Winery of the Year’ Press Release
Cass Winery Wins 2015 Winery of the Year
Central Coast Wine Competition Honors Paso Robles Estate Winery
July 31, 2015 (PASO ROBLES, CALIF.) – Cass Winery was named the 2015 Winery of the Year by the Central Coast Wine Competition. Out of 132 wineries who submitted 624 wines to the competition, Cass Winery was given the distinguished honor. The Winery of the Year award seeks to recognize the winery that presented the most exceptional selection of wines at the Central Coast Wine Competition, which is presented at the California Mid State Fair.
Criteria for selection of the Winery of the Year award required a minimum number of five entries and a ratio based on results criteria. Cass Winery’s award winning vintages include the 2013 Grenache (Gold, Best of Class), 2014 Marsanne (Gold, Best of Class), 2012 Rockin’ One (Gold) , 2013 Mourvedre (Gold), 2014 Roussanne (Silver), 2013 Rockin’ One (Silver), 2014 Oasis (Silver), 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (Silver), 2013 Late Harvest Roussanne (Silver) 2013 Brut Sparkling Marsanne (Silver), 2014 Viognier (Bronze) and 2012 Syrah (Bronze).
Established in 2005, family-owned Cass Winery produces 10,000 cases a year and is one of the smallest wineries to receive this award. “This is the first year Cass has entered into this competition and we are thrilled with how well our wines did and how they were received by the judges”, says Cass’ winemaker
Sterling Kragten, “Especially considering the other great wines and wineries that compete in the Central Coast Wine Competition.”
The 160 acre vineyard and winery is located in the Geneseo AVA in southeast Paso Robles. The AVA exemplifies the quality of the Paso Robles region, with its warm days, cool coastal breezes, and exceptional soils. Deposited over centuries, these gravelly alluvial soils with moderate depth, older granites, as well as scattered calcareous deposits make for an expressive site that produces fruit of incredible quality.
Cass emphasizes Rhône varietals in production but also produces all five big red Bordelaise varieties, which can usually be found in the Cabernet Sauvignon and in the Reserve. Cass produces 100% estategrown wines and grows 13 varieties.
“We emphasize producing wines that express their varietal nature and our vineyard. This results in wines that are typically lighter in color and body but more complex in flavors and nuances. This is generally referred to as an ‘old world’ style. Tasting at Cass one can experience each individual varietal
and then what they all contribute to a blend”, says co-owner Steve Cass.

Cass is in good company with previous winners being Hearst Ranch, J. Lohr Vineyards and Wines, Eberle Winery and Hope Family Wines. With over 400,000 California Mid State Fair attendees, Cass will no doubt benefit from the exposure.
The Central Coast Wine Competition is the largest wine evaluation event that recognizes wines produced exclusively from vinifera grown on the Central Coast regions of California. This event promotes the excellent quality and diversity of commercial wineries and grape growers while recognizing the fastest growing wine regions in California.
In its 13th year the Central Coast Wine Competition featured over 600 wines entered from wineries as far south as Temecula and as north as Sonoma. Wines produced from grapes grown in the Central Coast American Viticulture Area (AVA), including all of Contra Costa County and extending into Ventura County. The Central Coast AVA produces 15% of the state’s total wine grape production and encompasses over 400 wineries.
The Central Coast Wine Competition is proud to showcase the outstanding wines of Cass Vineyard and Winery. The display will be featured till Sunday August 2nd at the California Mid-State Fair then headed to the Ventura County Fair starting August 5th and the wines will then debut at the Monterey County Fair starting Wednesday, September 7, 2015.
