Whalebone Vineyard and Winery is owned and operated by the Simpson Family since 1989 on the Vineyard Drive Wine Trail west of Paso Robles. We specialize primarily in red wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cab Reserve. Our Adelaida dry land farmed vineyard at 1800 feet is south facing, extremely rocky with abundant calcareous soils and limestone. BOBWINE, a Red Meritage is a Cult favorite. We also produce red and white Rhones, Zinfandel, and Rancho Deluxe, a Rhone/Bordeaux Blend.
Whalebone also offers artisan Paso Robles olive oil and vinegar tasting, and we always have cheeses, salami, and local sheeps milk ice cream for hungry tasters.
Planted in 1989 with Cabernet Sauvignon Estrella Clone 8, the vineyard lies at 1800 feet with fossil laden limestone soils, 8 miles from the ocean. It’s not luck but the terroir that promotes production of our superb grapes. Whalebones unearthed when ripping the rocky soils while planting our vineyard led us to our name.Vineyard Description
